Savour or Store
Your meat will be at its freshest when you collect it. To enjoy the superb quality, we recommend using it within the next few days. If you have more than you can use right away, make sure to freeze anything you want to save for later as soon as you get home. This helps preserve the freshness and quality until you’re ready to enjoy it.
Storing your food
Freezing meat
Can I freeze produce from my box?
Ever wonder if you’re freezing your food correctly, or how long those steaks can safely chill out in your freezer? You’re not alone. To clear up the confusion and keep your cuts in perfect condition, we’ve put together a handy guide on how to safely freeze and thaw your meat, helping you make the most of every delicious bite.
Freezing isn’t just about storage—it’s about maintaining the impeccable taste and quality of our hand-reared produce. Think of your freezer as a pause button; it won’t degrade the meat’s quality but will keep it safe and delicious until you’re ready to enjoy it. This method is perfect for extending the life of your favourite cuts and is a crucial step in our mission to reduce food waste.
Preparing meat for the freezer
To freeze like a pro, wrap each steak or individual portion tightly, squeezing out as much air as possible, and pop them into a zip bag or vacuum pouch. This not only speeds up freezing but also simplifies defrosting.
Upon delivery, check that your meat’s packaging is intact. If it’s compromised, rewrap it in a new sealable freezer pouch, label it, and pop it in the freezer. Remember, we recommend keeping meat frozen for no more than three months to maintain the best quality. Always rotate older items to the front and place new ones at the back, ensuring nothing heavy squashes your precious cuts.
Thawing your meat
It's best to thaw meat in the fridge, letting it warm up gradually. Plan ahead as large cuts can take up to four days to thaw in the fridge. Once thawed, cook within 24 hours to enjoy its freshest flavour.
Never rush the defrosting process by leaving meat out at room temperature or using hot water. Slow and steady wins the race.
